Genesis 1:1-2 says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” The Hebrew words used in this passage refer to it as ‘in a mixed up state’. And the Hebrew word for the Spirit ‘hovering’ refers to movement as in a ‘bird hovering’. So the Spirit of God hovered like a dove upon the face of the waters in the midst of chaos and darkness.
The next verse, Genesis 1:3, then indicates how the Word went forth: “Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light.” So, creation took place by the union of Word and Spirit. Together, these two sources bring all the power of creation. The entire created universe was brought into being through the union of God’s Word and the Holy Spirit.
Psalm 33:6 reiterates this “By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.” The Hebrew word here for ‘breath’ is ‘ruach’ which means ‘Spirit’. So, again, it is reiterated in scripture that it is by the union of God’s Word and the Holy Spirit that the universe and all therein was brought into being.
See, there is great power, when we invite the Holy Spirit into our lives and then proclaim the Word of God over our lives. The union between the Word of God and the Holy Spirit is so powerful that it literally created the universe and everything in it.
The Word of God as we know it is represented in a finite book of words bound into what we call the bible. AND, the Author and inspiration behind the bible, IS the Holy Spirit. Even though it is a finite book, it represents the mind and heart of an infinite God. There have been many human and angelic instruments involved in the bible’s composition, but only one Author. The book of Revelation starts with John declaring “I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day”. The inspiration for the book of Revelation, as with all the books of the bible, came by the Holy Spirit.
And, just as a piano is a finite instrument with a set number of keys, but when a pianist plays, an infinite amount of music can come out of that instrument. It’s the same with the bible, it’s a finite book of words, yet the Holy Spirit can reveal an infinite amount of revelation out of it to the readers. Because he is after all the Author, who put into words the mind and heart of an infinite God!
When the manifestation of the Holy Spirit comes upon you, one of the aspects is He is always practical.
- The inspiration for the book of Revelation came to John through an open vision.
- Bezalel [Exodus 31], when filled with the Holy Spirit became an exceptionally gifted artisan filled with wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and craftsmanship to design artistic works as the chief craftsman of the Tabernacle.
- Peter, an unschooled (illiterate)[Acts 4:13] fisherman, preached in such power, and with such knowledge and eloquence of the words of the prophet Joel, empowered by the Holy Spirit on the day of pentecost, that 3000 people in Jerusalem got saved and added to the Kingdom of God.[Acts 2:14-41]
Before having received the Holy Spirit, Peter and the disciples could barely understand the meaning of Jesus’ death and resurrection.
- At the last supper, all the disciples could do was argue about which one of them should be the greatest.
- Peter denied Jesus three times.
- The disciples, afraid for their lives, locked themselves in a room.
- Thomas doubted the resurrected Christ.
But, as soon as the Holy Spirit came upon them, the disciples instantly gained a different grasp of Jesus’ identity and of the meaning of His death and resurrection.
John 20:22 says, Then, taking a deep breath, he blew on them and said, Receive the Holy Spirit. And Luke 24:45 describes the same encounter like this: He supernaturally unlocked their understanding to receive the revelation of the Scriptures.
Because, now, with the Holy Spirit, there is a profound revelation of the work of the cross. And a practical application to it: There are blessings and benefits to be received from the Word of God, because of the work of the cross. Now, communion for us represents a union between the Word of God and the Holy Spirit that has power beyond what we could ever imagine or comprehend.
1 Corinthians 1:18 says: To preach the message of the cross seems like sheer nonsense to those who are on their way to destruction, but to us who are being saved, it is the mighty power of God released within us. Because, when we’re saved, we have access to the Holy Spirit, We can invite Him into our lives and he’ll never say no. And, now with the Holy Spirit, as I just mentioned are these practical applications from within the Word of God concerning Jesus’ death and resurrection, because:
- He [Jesus] purchased my victory.
- He purchased my salvation.
- He purchased my emotional wholeness.
- He purchased my healing.
- He purchased my deliverance.
- And, He purchased my triumph over every foe.
Because Jesus shares the spoils of his victory on the cross and resurrection with us, “His mighty ones” according to Isaiah 53:12. He calls us His mighty ones, because where there is union between the Word of God and the Holy Spirit, we become MIGHTY ONES.
In John 14:12, Jesus says “… whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” What happened when Jesus went to the father? The father sent His Holy Spirit. John 14:26, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”
Paul determined amongst the Corinthians, that there was nothing more important to him, than to know Jesus Christ and Him crucified [1 Corinthians 2:2], because the Word that became flesh [John 1:14] and his victory on the cross, and the Holy Spirit who gives us revelation to spoils we have access to, gives us access to victories that can only be described as “biblical”.
Opening Prayer
Father, my prayer is that You would send Your Holy Spirit to teach us ALL THINGS concerning the benefits we receive from taking communion together. Holy Spirit reveal the secret things hidden in the scriptures concerning Jesus’ sacrifice for us, so that just as Mary prayed the simplest of prayers when the angel Gabriel came to her to announce that she would be mother to the Son of God, she prayed, “… Let it be according to Your Word”. But, that short simple prayer, released the greatest miracle in human history! Teach us all things concerning the SPOILS of Jesus’ victory on the cross and His resurrection for us Holy Spirit, so that in our times of prayer and communion individually or with our families, we can prayer LET IT BE ACCORDING TO YOUR WORD in Isaiah 53:5 (I AM HEALED), let it be according to Your Word in the Psalms (I HAVE A REDEEMER FIGHTING FOR ME and MY SITUATION). Let it be according to Your Word, Abba Father. Come now Holy Spirit, we invite You into this place. We yield ourselves to You, right now. My tongue is my glory. Use my tongue Holy Spirit, to glorify the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Thank you Lord Jesus, that You are our baptizer in the Holy Spirit. Thank you for allowing us to drink of Your Spirit whom you pour out on us so generously. Bless this time, Lord Jesus, as we gather together for prayer and communion. Amen.
Communion
1 Corinthians 10:16 says: The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?
This scripture tells us that there is a blessing that comes with us taking communion. Communion is not a religious ritual to be observed, but a blessing to be received.
In 1 Corinthians 11:23-26, Paul says: For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.
In other words, whenever we take communion together, we are proclaiming EVERY SINGLE BENEFIT the bible says we receive that is attached to Jesus’ sacrifice for us, until He returns again. And, not only do we have access to ALL the benefits, but according to 1 Corinthians 1:18 we have power with the Holy Spirit to believe it, receive it, and PROPHESY the Word of God over ourselves and our families. When we take communion, we PROPHESY the Lord’s death, burial and resurrection to the principalities and powers of darkness, and that they are defeated, by the blood of Jesus! [Colossians 2:15]
When we take communion together, we are prophesying before all of heaven and earth that we believe in Jesus, and that we believe he lived a sinless spotless life, and we believe that he gave himself as a sacrifice for us. [John 3:16]
When we take communion, we are prophesying that we are healed in our bodies. [Isaiah 53:5] When we take communion, we are prophesying over ourselves the RESURRECTION POWER of Jesus. [1 Corinthians 6:14]
When we take communion, we are prophesying that we are whole, a NEW CREATION, through Christ Jesus. [2 Corinthians 5:17] When we take communion, we are prophesying that we abide in Him, and He abides in us. [1 John 4:13-14]
Let’s get our communion elements ready, and stand in faith and believe that when we pray and partake, miracles will manifest in great power.
Prayer
Lord, as we come before You, we do so to petition You as the elect of God. We are those chosen in You before the foundations of the earth.
We stand empowered before You in the holiest of holies and we claim every benefit of Your sacrifice for us on the cross. Thank You that Your blood, Jesus, gives us access and acceptance into this holy place.
Lord, we come before You with our communion elements, and WE BLESS this bread with what You say it is. LIFE. Jesus, we bless this bread with Your RESURRECTION POWER. We bless this bread with HEALING. We bless this bread with WHOLENESS.
Lord Jesus, we take these elements and we remember your death, burial, and resurrection. We remember that YOU pardon our inequities, YOU heal our sickness and pain, YOU deliver our lives from the pit, YOU crown our lives with loving kindness, YOU satisfy us with a FULL LIFE, YOU are our SHIELD OF PROTECTION when the enemy rises against us, and YOU renew our youth like that of the eagle. So I bless these elements with ALL of the benefits you say I will enjoy through Your sacrifice for us. As we take this into our bodies, According to Your Word, I declare HEALING in the name of Jesus. As we take these communion elements into our bodies, restore our health, restore our souls, restore our strength, restore our bones, restore our mental sharpness, restore our joy, restore our youth like your Word says to that of an eagle. I attach my faith and believe that this is a spiritual transaction that brings healing in my body, wholeness to my soul, and will renew my youth and renew my strength like that of an eagle. Let it be according to Your Word, Father. I claim all those benefits, right now in Jesus name.
Lord Jesus, we bless our families and PROPHESY their God ordained destinies in the mighty name of Jesus. We release the resurrection power of Jesus over our spouses, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and a thousand generations still to come through the coming ages, and PROPHESY JESUS as the cornerstone in every single one’s lives.
You said Lord, that he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me and I in him. So we THANK YOU for your sacrifice, and release this blessing NOW in POWER, as we partake of this communion, in the mighty name of Jesus. AMEN.
