Psalm 23:5 (NIV)
“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.”
David begins Psalm 23 by establishing something foundational: The Lord is my Shepherd.
That means everything that follows flows out of relationship.
So when David makes this striking declaration in verse 5, notice where God does this.
He prepares the table not after the enemies are gone, not once the pressure lifts, and not when the resistance subsides. Adonai prepares the table in full view of the opposition.
As believers, we may assume, “If God could remove this resistance, then I could achieve my calling.”
But Scripture shows us the opposite.
God releases His greatest provision in the middle of resistance.
God responds to His relationship with you, for all to see, and Jesus reveals this plainly:
John 14:23 (TPT)
“Loving me empowers you to obey my word. And my Father will love you so deeply that we will come to you and make you our dwelling place.”
This is the reality behind your visible table.
The table is prepared because God is present.
The blessing flows because God has taken up residence.
And where God dwells, the enemy has no jurisdiction.
They can only watch as He anoints your head with oil, and your cup overflows.
Be confident as the pressure surrounds you.
1 Samuel 2:30b (AMP)
“… But now the Lord declares, ‘Far be it from Me—for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me will be insignificant and contemptible.’”
Honor flows out of love.
Obedience flows out of intimacy.
And God responds to both by manifesting Himself.
God chooses to dwell with His own.
He is preparing our table where the enemy can see it, but cannot touch it.
And I hear the Lord saying:
“This is My dwelling place.
This is My child.
This is My provision.
You have no authority here.”
He anoints our head with oil, the oil of joy, in the presence of our enemies.
And the result? “Our cup overflows.”
So instead of the enemy’s presence reducing our portion, it becomes the backdrop against which Adonai honors us and abides with us.
In this season, let the pressure, opposition, and resistance remind you that our Shepherd is near, the dwelling place is established, the table is set, and accelerated abundance is being released in plain sight.
The pressure, the opposition, and the resistance have no authority here.
Every demonic word curse spoken over you will not alight, will avail nothing, and you will fulfil what the Lord called you to do.
Because He is with you.
He is your Shepherd.
And He is here, dwelling with you.
