Psalm 5:3 (TPT)
“At each and every sunrise you will hear my voice as I prepare my sacrifice of prayer to you. Every morning I lay out the pieces of my life on the altar and wait for your fire to fall upon my heart.”
Every new day is an invitation to priestly fellowship.
“At each and every sunrise you will hear my voice as I prepare my sacrifice of prayer to you.” Here David uses the Hebrew word arak. It is a priestly term for lighting the altar fire, preparing a sacrifice, and laying it out in order upon the altar to be consumed.
“Every morning I lay out the pieces of my life on the altar and wait for your fire to fall upon my heart.” The Aramaic text states, “At dawn I shall be ready and shall appear before you.” The Hebrew can also be translated, “I will be on the watchtower (for the answer to come).”
It is comforting to know that each and every day as we prepare our sacrifice of prayer, God hears our voice. Every day when we come before Him to lay out the pieces of our lives on the altar, God promises that His fire will fall on our hearts in answer to our prayers.
David knew, the moment he prayed, that God would answer his prayer. He positioned himself as if in the watchtower, watching for his prayer to be answered. He would not miss it. He knew the answer would come.
Your prayers and petitions are not random. They are worship in order. Your surrender arranged. Your devotion set in place.
This is where God’s fire and glory meet us.
God answers by fire. His fire purifies what is placed on the altar. His glory fills what has been surrendered. Fire falls, and glory rises within us as transformation.
This is the rhythm of Psalm 5:3:
Prepare the altar.
Lay down the pieces.
Wait in expectation.
Receive the fire.
Carry the glory.
Every morning, the altar is lit again.
Every sunrise, He meets you again.
And the fire that falls on the altar becomes the glory that fills your heart.
Prayer – Inviting Fire and Glory
Father, I come before You as Your priest.
I prepare the altar of my heart. I lay out the pieces of my life in order before You, nothing hidden and nothing withheld. Take it all, Lord Jesus, I place it at Your feet.
Lord Jesus, I wait in expectation, knowing that You answer every surrendered place with Your presence. Let Your fire fall upon my heart today. Burn away what does not belong. Purify my motives. Ignite fresh devotion. Surround me with Your favor as a shield this day.
Holy Spirit, fill me with Your glory within. Let the weight of Your presence settle on me, shaping every thought, every decision, and every step. Let the fire that falls become the glory that remains.
I welcome Your fire.
I welcome Your glory.
I welcome Your work in me today.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
