A People Set Apart with Understanding of the Times
January 23, 20261 Corinthians 10:16 (NKJV)
“The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?”
This passage in Paul’s letter to the Corinthians reminds us that there is a blessing attached to partaking of communion. Communion is not a ritual to be observed, but a blessing to be received. Whenever you partake, expect to encounter and receive that blessing by faith.
1 Corinthians 11:23-26 (NKJV)
“23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, ‘Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.’ 25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.’
26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.”
Notice in verse 26 that every time we take communion, we proclaim. In other words, we prophesy. When we take communion and proclaim the Lord’s death, burial, and resurrection, we are prophesying over ourselves the message of the cross and all the benefits Scripture says are attached to that sacrificial and redemptive act, until Jesus returns.
In 1 Corinthians 1:18, Paul writes:
“To preach the message of the cross seems like sheer nonsense to those who are on their way to destruction, but to us who are being saved, it is the mighty power of God released within us.”
Not only do we have access to all the benefits of the cross, but we also have mighty power released within us to step out in faith and prophesy those truths over ourselves and our families.
So know this: when we take communion,
- We are prophesying the Lord’s death, burial, and resurrection to the principalities and powers of darkness, declaring that they are defeated by the blood of Jesus.
- We are prophesying before heaven’s hosts that we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, that He lived a sinless, spotless life, and that He gave Himself as the sacrificial Lamb for us.
When we take communion,
- We are prophesying that by His stripes we are healed.
- We are prophesying over ourselves the resurrection power of Jesus Christ. Resurrection power raised Lazarus from death and restored his decomposing body. That same resurrection power brings life to dead and diseased cells, delivers us from night seasons, restores joy after hope deferred, and heals wounded hearts.
When we take communion,
- We are prophesying that we are a new creation in Christ Jesus.
- We are prophesying that we abide in Him, and He abides in us.
When you partake, do so expecting an encounter with God. Communion is not an obligation or a religious exercise. By faith, we believe that when we take communion, a transaction takes place in the spiritual realm.
Communion Prayer
Lord Jesus, I thank You for the life-union I have with You. Through this union, I receive everything I need to fulfill my destiny. I come before You now with my communion elements, and I bless this bread with what You say it is: life.
I bless this bread with Your resurrection power.
I bless this bread with healing.
I bless this bread with wholeness.
Lord Jesus, as I take these elements, I remember Your death, burial, and resurrection. I remember that You pardon my iniquities, heal my diseases, deliver my life from the pit, crown me with lovingkindness, satisfy me with a full life, and renew my youth like the eagle.
I bless these elements with all the benefits You say belong to me through the fullness of Your salvation.
As I partake, release healing, Lord Jesus. Restore my soul, restore my strength, restore my body, restore my joy, and renew my youth as Your Word declares. I attach my faith to this moment and receive this as a spiritual transaction that brings healing to my body and wholeness to my soul.
I bless my family and proclaim their God-ordained destinies in the mighty name of Jesus. I release the resurrection power of Christ over my spouse, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a thousand generations yet to come. I prophesy Jesus as the cornerstone of every one of their lives.
You said, Lord, that whoever eats Your flesh and drinks Your blood abides in You, and You in them. So I thank You for Your sacrifice and receive this blessing now as I partake of communion, in the mighty name of Jesus.
Amen.
