God is Breaking False Agreement and Releasing His People into Freedom

Jeremiah 23:25-26 (LSB)
“I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy a lie in My name, saying, ‘I had a dream, I had a dream!’ … prophets of the deception of their own heart.”

Covetousness learns the language of faith. Personal ambition becomes prophetic vision. Presumption becomes declaration. Desire becomes revelation, where what they want begins to be presented as what God has said.

Micah 2:2 (TPT)
“They covet someone’s field and seize it for themselves, and they take over his house as well. They defraud a man of his home and another man of his inheritance.”

Scripture warns that this can happen wherever spiritual influence and access to resources meet. There are those who “covet fields and then seize them.”

Jeremiah 6:13 (TPT)
“From the smallest to the greatest, they are greedy for corrupt profits; prophet and priest alike, they all practice deceit.”

Jeremiah places greed for gain alongside spiritual leadership and deceit, saying, “from the prophet even to the priest they all practice deceit.”

1 Timothy 6:5 (LSB)
“And constant friction between men of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain.”

Paul warns of those who imagine godliness as a means of gain.

Jeremiah 23:16 (LSB)
“…They are leading you into vanity; They speak a vision of their own heart, Not from the mouth of Yahweh.”

Covetousness begins as “the deceit of their own heart.” When left unchecked, it searches for a mechanism through which it can acquire what is desired. Position, relationships, and influence become that mechanism. Even prophecy and perceived divine authority become mechanisms when someone attaches the name of God to the desire of their own heart.

A person can desire something so intensely that desire begins masquerading as revelation. “I want this” becomes “God showed me this.” Personal ambition becomes “Kingdom assignment.” Pressure becomes “obedience.” Acquisition becomes “favor.” Fabrications become “speaking in faith.”

Yet biblical faith has an object: God and His Word.

Faith agrees with what God has spoken. Faith can wait. Faith can be tested. Faith welcomes truth because the God upon whom faith rests is Truth. Faith has no requirement for fabricated stories, concealed information, manipulated relationships, or borrowed spiritual authority to accomplish what God has promised.

Gehazi provides a sobering picture in 2 Kings 5:20-27. Elisha had refused Naaman’s resources, yet Gehazi coveted what had been offered. He pursued Naaman and borrowed Elisha’s prophetic credibility to gain access to something Elisha had already refused. He fabricated a story, obtained the resources, concealed them, and then concealed his actions from Elisha.

The progression is revealing: Covetous desire → borrowed spiritual authority → fabricated story → access to another person’s resources → concealment.

Gehazi even began his pursuit with spiritual language: “As Yahweh lives…”

The presence of God’s name within a declaration therefore cannot authenticate the declaration. Spiritual vocabulary cannot sanctify covetousness. Prophetic language cannot transform deception into faith.

Jesus gives us the test:

“You will know them by their fruits…“

Paul gives us another safeguard. When administering financial resources, he deliberately created accountability because he desired to do what was honorable “not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men” (2 Corinthians 8:20-21). Biblical stewardship welcomes transparency. Integrity can withstand examination. Truth lives in the light.

For those serving under spiritual authority, this distinction matters deeply. Submission never requires participation in deception. Honor never requires surrendering discernment. Someone else’s “conviction” does not automatically become your instruction from God.

We are commanded to test what we hear. “Test all things; hold fast what is good” (1 Thessalonians 5:21). The Bereans were commended because they examined even Paul’s teaching against Scripture (Acts 17:11). John tells believers to “test the spirits” (1 John 4:1).

God awakens discernment in people who have lived under unhealthy spiritual influence. Things once accepted without question suddenly become visible. Words that once carried tremendous weight begin to be examined against Scripture. Patterns become recognizable. Contradictions become apparent. The Holy Spirit begins separating the voice of God from the voice of false influence surrounding them.

Come Out of False Agreement

The Lord is awakening people who have unknowingly come into agreement with things He never spoke.

He is bringing hidden motives into the light and restoring discernment to those whose discernment has been suppressed by loyalty, fear, dependency, misplaced honor, or perceived spiritual authority. He is teaching His people again to recognize His voice for themselves.

There are people who will begin looking back over conversations, declarations, financial decisions, relationships, and assignments with fresh clarity. Things that once appeared spiritual will suddenly become recognizable for what they are. The fruit will reveal the tree.

The Lord is calling His people out of agreement with covetousness disguised as vision, presumption disguised as faith, manipulation disguised as obedience, and deception disguised as prophetic declaration.

Where hearts have become entangled, God is bringing conviction. Where consciences have become quiet, He is awakening them. Where discernment has been surrendered, He is restoring it. Where people have participated through ignorance, He is giving opportunity for repentance, cleansing, restitution where required, and a return to walking in truth.

And for those exercising leadership, this is also an invitation from the mercy of God. He is exposing what He intends to heal. He is calling hearts away from ambition, possession, control, and the fear of losing what they have built. He is calling His servants back to clean hands, pure hearts, transparent stewardship, and complete dependence upon Him as Provider.

God does provide for what He authors. His provision can therefore be received with clean hands.

There is a separation taking place between what God actually spoke and what human desire added to it.

Return to the Word. Test the fruit. Bring hidden things into the light. Allow the Holy Spirit to examine every agreement you have made because someone told you, “God said.”

You belong to Yeshua. You hear His voice.

And where His voice is bringing conviction, follow Him into the light.
